I’m rewriting the Meredith Grey gif – you know the one…she’s on the verge of tears, stating “I’m just exhausted.” Here’s my version: me trying to excel as a wife, mother, teacher, blogger, etc., maintain family/friendships, drink enough water, exercise, message everyone back, stay sane, and be happy.
I’m tired, folks. I’ve been struggling with anxiety this week. This is the point in the journey where I want to quit something. The thing is, there is nothing to pare down except the pressure I put on myself. You read that correctly. I don’t want to get rid of anything in my life (well, I can’t possibly retire at this point, so that’s off the table). I like my life. It’s just busy and exhausting and it’s been a hard week.
It’s best on days like this to practice extra self care. Part one of today went to getting my kid up for the ACT (he’s a champ 💪) and a venture to town with my husband to get the Walmart Grocery order. If you haven’t taken advantage of personal shoppers yet, this is a must for busy individuals. We were able to run other errands and have a nice lunch without wasting two hours in a crowded store.
So this is today, part two. I have a get away space and I’m taking full advantage. It’s an upstairs apartment over the garage. I’m super happy I cleaned it up nicely on spring break. If you’re an INFJ like me, or even the least bit introverted, this is a must. After extroverting as a middle school teacher all week, I need a place to recharge. I think everyone needs some alone time to practice self care. Listed below is my reset game plan when life gets to be a bit much.
Self Care List for Exhaustion
• Create a get away space and use it
• Unplug for a while from electronic devices
• Focus on praying. It’s good for the soul
• Read a book with real pages until you’re sleepy
• Take a nap! Sleep as long as you like
• When you awaken, write, watch a movie, or do some other pleasurable activity
• If you’ve been on a meal plan, this is the day to take some untracked space
• Sip coffee or your favorite beverage, slowly
• Don’t multitask. Do everything slowly and give yourself time
• Empty your brain entirely of all the cares of the week. Try and empty it until you’re not thinking anything at all
This is a reset designed for when you only have one afternoon/evening. It is perfect for the working individual who needs to carve out some me time and for anyone struggling with anxiety. Have an amazing rest of the weekend.
Blessings on your week,
Andi
This is a great post! I have really been working on my “get away” space; something just for me when I need it. Thank you for the much needed post because we all need a little self-care every now and then!

Self care is so important and although they seem like common sense to do those things they are easily forgotten – great post!

Great tips! I hope that these help to alleviate your stress. There’s a lot going on, and taking time for yourself is so important, as you mentioned. I’m especially a fan of unplugging, though that can seem tough to do at times! Thanks for sharing.

This afternoon method is the best thing I’ve tried. I could add a hot bath to the list!

Absolutely right that as an introvert and a teacher I need a space to ‘get away’ after a busy day or week! Thank you for sharing your post ☺️

I love these suggestions – especially the one about ‘unplugging’ from electronics. Having screens in your face constantly really can be exhausting!

I love this! This weekend is the first time I’ve really unplugged from social media and electronics for a while, I was visiting my baby nephew and we try not to use them around him and I was so exhausted from giggling at him and playing all day (and walking in nap time) that I didn’t have the energy in the evening after he had gone to bed…and honestly it did me the world of good!
Although now I’m worn out from all the masking and need some no physical interaction time but I’m feeling fresher and more on board for online interaction and blogging 🙂
