De-stress with KonMarie

Y’all, I did it. I KonMaried my closet just as I said I would wayyyy back in January (see https://this-coffee-life.com/2019/01/20/in-pursuit-of-joy/). I’m on spring break from teaching this week, so it was the perfect time to tackle this task. Believe it or not, after listening to The Life Changing Magic or Tidying Up via audiobook, I’ve actually looked forward to doing this project!

This is but the first step of managing stress/anxiety via simple living (aka less clutter). According to the National Institute of Mental Health https://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/publications/stress/index.shtml: “Over time, continued strain on your body from routine stress may contribute to serious health problems, such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and other illnesses, as well as mental disorders like depression or  anxiety.”

I don’t typically enjoy organizing, but the casting off of every item not bringing me joy was actually quite liberating. Knowing my overall purpose kept me focused and moving – it did not take long to accomplish!

5 whole bags! Clothes that are too small, clothes that are dated, clothes that bring no joy. Shoes and purses I no longer desire to wear/carry. Check out my new closet below! This entire process is very therapeutic; now if I can discard 5 pounds to go with the 5 bags…stay tuned. P.S. – check out my new farmhouse decor, bedding, and 7$ Macy’s rug below!

These sconces are available on Amazon. Click here to check out other farmhouse decor options: https://this-coffee-life.com/2019/03/03/6-amazon-finds-for-spring/. Thank you for reading and have a blessed week!

  1. Spring cleaning…I struggle to say “goodbye” to certain work-related things, even though I can’t imagine EVER looking at them again…your post has inspired me to get my own black bags of the past packed and out the door!

  2. This is such a helpful post! I am moving soon, and I definitely need to give that book a read! I keep telling my husband that anything we don’t want to pay money to move needs to go, I feel like that’s a similar concept. Thanks so much for the post!

  3. I love organization and all things OCD, but I cant handle KonMarie. After watching the first episode I had severe anxiety. It was just to much. Props on doing this though it looks awesome and I love the post.

  4. I did KonMari to my closet at the beginning of the year and it did wonders for my anxiety. I’ve been putting off doing it to other areas of my house but I know once I do I’ll feel worlds better.
